How to go from Kathmandu to Nagarkot
A beautiful hilltop town, Nagarkot is a popular destination for many Nepal travelers. It is situated around 30 km away from Kathmandu city.
You primarily have 2 ways to go there, private taxi or local buses. Taxi is more convenient but the bus is cheap and adventurous.
Route 1: By Taxi
This is the easiest and quickest way of getting to Nagarkot. But this convenience comes with a hefty cost. There isn’t a taxi stand in Nagarkot, so you’d most likely have to book for a round trip.
We talked to a few local taxi drivers and car rentals, For a day-long round trip, they were asking for 8,000 - 10,000 NRP.

Route 2: By Local Bus
If you want an affordable option with some adventure then taking the local bus is the best option of getting to Nagarkot.
Unfortunately, there’s no direct travel bus from Kathmandu to Nagarkot. So you need to first go from Kathmandu → Bokhtapur in one bus, then take a different bus from Bokhtapur → Nagarkot.
Kathmandu → Bokhtapur
If you live near the Thamel area, then you can easily walk to Bokhtapur Bus Station, there you can find local buses that will to Bokhtapur.
Now there will be multiple stops in between, but you need to drop off at the last stop called Kamal-Vinayak Bus Park. So before getting on the bus, make sure to verify with the staff first if they are going to that stop.

Bokhtapur → Nagarkot
Once you arrive at Kamal-Vinayak Bus Park, you need to take a couple of minutes of walk to arrive at Nagarkot Bus Stop. Where we’ll get our last bus for Nagarkot. and be prepared to experience the hillside road, coz it’s gonna be a bumpy 😬

Keep in mind, even though the actual bus ride can be less than 1.30 hours, sometimes you have to wait a decent time for the bus to fill up. So keep some extra time in hand just in case.
It took us around 2.30 hours to go from Thamel to Nogarkot.
But after all the traveling, you will be welcomed with a breathtaking view.
