Everything you need to know about Gulshan, Dhaka

Living in the world's most congested cities can be overwhelming at times, but residing in a more pleasant area can make it worth it. Gulshan is one of those areas, situated at the heart of Dhaka city; it's a blend of affluent residential and commercial buildings.

In this article, we’ll get deep into Gulshan and get a feel of what’s it like living in one of the best neighborhoods of Dhaka.

Now, if you mention the greater Gulshan Thana, it includes Gulshan 1, Gulshan 2, Banani, Baridhara, Niketan Housing Society, and the Mohakhali area. However, for this article, we'll not include Mohakhali, as it may not offer the are very facilities I’ll share.

Geography

One of the best parts of Gulshan is its location. It is considered to be the center of Dhaka city. Only within a 10km distance, you can reach the Airport, Railway station, sports activities, major hospitals, schools, and most government organizations.

In a city of concrete, Gulshan is an exception. Being right next to Gulshan Lake with multiple parks and trees on every street, you won’t feel this is the Dhaka you know or heard of.

Gulshan also has almost all international embassies, making it a favorite place to stay for many foreigners.

Food

With many cafes, bakeries, fast food, fine dining, and 5-star hotels and even bars, Gulshan has almost all the international and regional food options that you can find in Bangladesh.

Housing

Most people in Bangladesh live with families, either with parents or kids or both. So in general it’s harder to find single-bed apartments, which is probably not good news if you are single or a couple.

Me and Kimberly also faced the same problem. If you are in a similar situation, either you can share a flat with someone else or start looking for a place 2 months in advance and keep your eyes on local websites (bikroy.com or bProperty.com) for single-bed or studio apartments.

But the good news is that many of the apartments come with full-furnished or semi-furnished options. So you won’t have many problems moving in.

Depending on your neighborhood, here’s 👇🏼 an approximate month rent of an apartment in Gulshan.

  • 3 beds non-furnished → ৳50,000 - ৳1,00,000 or $500 - $1,000

  • 3 beds furnished → ৳80,000 - ৳2,50,000 or $800 - $2,500
